Born 1953, NYC; raised in Columbus, Ohio; educated at Harvard (AB 74), Cambridge (BA 76), and Yale (PhD 83); taught at Stellenbosch (77-8), Yale (82-6); Mellon Fellow U.Va. 86-8; taught at Tulsa from 88-present. Currently James G. Watson Prof. & department chair of English at U. of Tulsa. Shakespearean Pragmatism: Market of His Time; coeditor, English Renaissance Drama: A Norton Anthology; many articles and reviews on early modern drama & poetry and on contemporary South African fiction. Active in Shakespeare Association of America.
