Broughton, Rowland
Rowland Broughton was a dramatist in the London area in the 1570s. He is known today through several encounters with the law. The main case was a 1573 Chancery lawsuit brought by three players—Lawrence Dutton, John Dutton, and Thomas Goffe—who had contracted with Broughton on 2 June 1572 to provide eighteen plays over a thirty-month period. By January 1573 Broughton had not begun to provide the men with plays. If Broughton ever did provide plays according to his agreement, that fact has not come to light.
