In the Wars of the Roses, two English dynasties vied for the crown: the Yorks and the Lancasters. Spanning three decades, the wars ended with the death of the York king, Richard III, making way for the rise of the Tudor dynasty headed by Henry VII in 1485 following his victory in the Battle of Bosworth Field.
