Thomas Kyd (b. 1588), was a dramatist from the 1580s, when he is reputed to have written for the Queen's men (though none of the evidence about him attributes a specific play by him to that company). He is best known for The Spanish Tragedy and petitionary letters to Sir John Puckering c. June 1593 in which he distanced himself from Christopher Marlowe by repeating some of the radical claims attributed to Marlowe in the infamous "Baines Note:" and claiming that their mutual patron could not "endure" Marlowe's "name, or sight." Kyd was buried 15 August 1594.
