Much of what is known about Samuel Rowley is documented in the diary of Philip Henslowe. His name ("same," "Samuell Rowlye") appears in two lists of Admiral's company members ([[WorksCited|Foakes, pp.8, 87). He witnessed payments (e.g., Fol. 233), authorized payments (e.g., Fol. 52v), and wrote plays (e.g., Fols. 85, 107). Surviving plots confirm several of his roles, e.g., Heraclius in "Frederick and Basilea," an ambassador in The Battle of Alcazar, and Ascalon as well as Crymm in part 1 of "Tamar Cham".
Rowley wrote plays for the Admiral's men, and he collaborated with William Bird to provide additions to the Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe.
